The Statue Liberty may be one the most often photographed works art the world. A French sculptor, Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, designed the statue the late 1800s. Today the monument continues present a beautiful sight the New York skyline. it came close never arriving the United States. The materials required building the Statue Liberty were almost lost sea. 1885, the ship carrying those materials almost sank stormy seas. Bartholdis dream a huge sculpture might never have been fulfilled. Luckily, the ship survived the rough seas. It arrived safely June 1885. the next year, the Statue Liberty had arisen what was then called Bedloes Island. The statue was officially opened that year. Many years later, the island was given a new name: Liberty Island.
